Dispute Resolution Experience
My background as an educational entrepreneur, university president and law school dean provide a practical basis for resolving all types of business to business or business to consumer contractual and educational disputes. In addition, I have been working at USC Gould School of Law since 2015, and currently I am teaching Mediation Theory and Practice for the LL.M. and M.D.R. programs and developing and training new mediators. Previously I held mediation teaching positions at California State University at Northridge and Dominguez Hills.
In addition to teaching at USC and private practice, I am active in the following mediation organizations and forums:
- Board Member, Southern California Mediation Association (2015-2019), serving as its Secretary (2016), President-elect (2017), and President (2018.
- President, Mediator Certification Consortium of California
- Arbitrator and Mediator, Los Angeles County Bar Association, Attorney-Client Mediation and Arbitration Services; Vice Chair, 2014-2021.
- Civil Mediator Approved Panel, Ventura County Superior Court
Professional Background
I relate to clients/litigants, as my professional career has spanned 30 years in business, law and education. That career includes serving three different organizations in the capacity of entrepreneur, corporate officer and businessperson, and two different universities in the capacity of president, dean and faculty member. My role has often been to facilitate discussion and collaboration between various business units to reach resolution on issues. My strength is in understanding and processing relatively complex issues without losing focus on the beliefs and principles of the people involved.
